Job Description

English Teacher Training

Could this be the school-based role that gives you the confidence to move into teaching? Want to learn your craft in a strong English department before stepping onto a formal teacher training route?

*** English Teacher Training
*** £85 - £125 per day initially
*** Temp to Perm
*** State of the Art secondary, Birmingham
*** Opportunity to build confidence and train as a teacher

The Role:
Work within the English department supporting pupils with reading, writing, analysis, and exam preparation. You will provide 1:1 and small-group academic support, reinforce lesson content, and build the classroom confidence needed for a future move into teacher training. Secondary teachers work with students aged 11 to 16, or up to 19 in schools with sixth forms.

The Candidate:
You are articulate, organised, and able to explain ideas clearly. You want practical secondary school experience, you enjoy helping pupils improve in English, and you see this role as a genuine route into teacher training rather than just a stop-gap job.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
    • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
    • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
    • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
    • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This state of the art secondary school in Birmingham offers a strong setting for a graduate who wants to learn quickly and grow into the profession. You will join a school where academic support is valued, classroom practice is taken seriously, and the English team can give you the kind of day-to-day exposure that helps you build confidence before progressing into teaching. GOV.UK’s eligibility guidance for Enhanced DBS checks was updated on 20 January 2026 and remains the core guidance for work involving children.
