JOB DESCRIPTION

A Field Engineer is a professional who works in various industries, often in construction, telecommunications, or information technology, and is responsible for on-site project management, technical support, and troubleshooting.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are no formal academic requirements although entrants typically possess GCSEs/S grades. Training is usually by apprenticeship and combines practical work experience and technical training. Relevant NVQs/ SVQs are available at Levels 2 and 3. Manufacturers may run specialised courses related to their products.

TASKS

  • Install and set up equipment, systems, or infrastructure components according to project specifications..
  • Provide technical support to clients, end-users, or on-site teams, addressing issues and ensuring the proper functioning of systems..
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues that arise during project implementation, minimizing downtime and disruptions..
  • Calibrate and adjust equipment to ensure accuracy, functionality, and compliance with specifications..
  • Conduct quality checks and inspections to verify that work meets project standards and regulatory requirements..
  • Maintain accurate records of on-site activities, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks..
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, and other stakeholders to provide updates, gather feedback, and address concerns..
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for all on-site personnel..
  • Manage and track the inventory of materials, tools, and equipment required for field projects..
