JOB DESCRIPTION

A Class 1 HGV Driver, also known as an HGV Class 1 Driver, operates heavy goods vehicles with a Class 1 license, typically involving articulated lorries or tractor-trailers. This role is responsible for transporting goods over long distances, adhering to traffic regulations, and ensuring the safe and timely delivery of cargo.

QUALIFICATIONS

No formal academic entry qualifications are required. The LGV test incorporates a medical examination, theory test and assessed road driving. LGV drivers of vehicles of 3.5 tonnes and over require a Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence). The minimum age for LGV driving after obtaining the qualification is 18 years. NVQs/SVQs, other vocational courses and apprenticeships relevant to this occupation are available at various levels.

TASKS

  • Adhere to strict safety guidelines for HGV Class 1 operation, including vehicle maintenance and adherence to speed limits..
  • Assist with loading and unloading goods, ensuring proper distribution and balancing of weight..

  • Plan and follow designated routes for efficient and timely delivery..
  • Relay information regarding delays, route changes, or other relevant details..
  • Report any mechanical issues for timely repairs..
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, traffic laws, and safety protocols..
  • Transport goods and materials over long distances, following designated routes..
  • Use equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts as needed..
  • Utilize navigation systems or maps to navigate unfamiliar locations..
