Head of Year – South Birmingham
This excellent secondary school in South Birmingham is seeking an experienced and committed Head of Year to lead on pastoral care, behaviour, attendance, and student progress across year 10. This is an exciting role within the school’s pastoral structure and would suit someone with previous experience as a Head of Year or Pastoral Lead who is passionate about supporting students through an important stage of their education.
As Head of Year, you will play a vital role in ensuring students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally as they work towards their GCSE courses. You will work closely with senior leaders, form tutors, families, and external agencies to promote high standards, positive behaviour, and strong attendance. You will be working closely with an experienced team of Head of Year and pastoral staff who are committed to maintaining standards and supporting the wellbeing of student.

Job Role:
- Leading the pastoral provision for Year 10 students
- Monitoring attendance, behaviour, and progress across the year group
- Implementing strategies to support students at risk of underachievement
- Working closely with form tutors to ensure consistent pastoral support
- Liaising with parents, carers, and external agencies where required
- Supporting students with social, emotional, or behavioural needs
- Contributing to whole-school behaviour and inclusion strategies
- Playing an active role in safeguarding and student well-being
- Previous experience as a Head of Year, Pastoral Lead, or similar role
- Strong understanding of behaviour management and student support
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to motivate, challenge, and support young people
- Experience working with secondary-aged students
- A calm, organised, and proactive approach to pastoral leadership
